Resident Testimonials
Township of Asphodel-Norwood
"The FoodCycler makes me feel much better knowing that I have a plan for food waste instead of throwing food waste in the garbage.
So glad the municipality is trying to be more eco-friendly, and is willing to bring pilot programs to our area in general.”
District of Tumbler Ridge
"I love the food cycler-- my parents live in a city with green bin program and smell is a large issue, in addition to attracting animals (rodents and crows). Food cycler compresses (dehydrates) the food waste and eliminates all smell and makes it so easy to use in the garden. I really appreciate this program being available.”
Norfolk County
"It is the most sensible why to manage food waste. Really love it. Easy to use. Great by product to reuse in garden. Not buggy or smelly."
Town of Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s
"Fantastic Initiative, would love to see more of these in all communities! Very grateful to have a progressive community/ town oversight.”
Haliburton County
"This has been an excellent experience and I appreciate Dysart getting involved with this needed program. Please continue to provide this program to all residents. I believe this will help with reducing greenhouse gases and also provide nutrients needed for gardens. Thank you for providing an easy program for all participants.”
District of Kent
"All my friends that I told about the program who don't live in the Kent district all said they wished their district would do a similar project."
RM of St. Andrews

Loyalist Township
"I really hope the township offers the FoodCycler program to all of its residents. We love our cycler and we have benefited greatly from using it. I think that if used properly this could save the landfill for a few more years. I have really enjoyed using my cycler and I will keep using it. Thank you!”
City of Kenora
"I love my recycler and I have only one very small handheld bag to put in the garbage each week... no more gross, smelly, leaky garbage.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes this a program?
FoodCycler Programs offer an innovative, fully supported approach that helps organizations move beyond traditional systems and lead in food waste reduction. Participating in a FoodCycler program goes far beyond purchasing an appliance. It is a fully supported solution designed to ensure long-term success, measurable impact, and a positive experience for both administrators and residents.
From the outset, you are supported by a dedicated Program Implementation Manager who serves as your single point of contact, guiding you through pre-launch planning and rollout to reduce the burden on your internal teams.
We provide comprehensive resident onboarding materials and product education, along with bilingual support for both residents and staff. Ongoing troubleshooting and warranty coordination are handled directly by our team, while we also equip you with resident communications, promotional content, and engagement tools to drive participation. Optional education sessions and webinars further support adoption.
This full-service approach ensures your program delivers real, measurable results rather than simply distributing units.
What does it cost?
Every program is customized based on your goals, scale, and available budget.
We work with you to design a program that balances impact, participation, and cost-effectiveness, whether you are starting with a pilot or planning for a larger rollout.
Is there a minimum program size?
There is no one-size-fits-all starting point.
We help you identify the right scale to begin with, whether that is a small pilot or a larger deployment. Our focus is on setting your program up for success first, then supporting you in scaling over time based on results and readiness.
How much waste can I expect to divert?
Across more than 200 pilot programs, households divert an average of approximately 250 kg of food waste per year.
Actual diversion varies depending on factors such as household size and demographics. We work with you to track and understand your program’s specific impact.
We already have green bins or a composting program. How does this help?
FoodCycler programs are designed to complement existing organic waste systems, if they are already in place.
They make participation easier and more consistent by:
- Eliminating odours and reducing pests or wildlife concerns
- Removing the “ick factor” associated with food waste storage
- Making it easier for residents to separate and manage food waste indoors
This is especially valuable in multi-residential buildings and other hard-to-serve environments where traditional systems face participation challenges.
The FoodCycler byproduct is also compatible with municipal composting systems, and we have research to support its integration.
What can the by-product be used for?
The byproduct is a nutrient-rich, soil amendment that can be used in a variety of ways.
Common options include:
- Adding it to home gardens or mixing it into soil
- Incorporating it into backyard compost systems
- Donating it to community gardens or local farms
- Integrating it into municipal leaf and yard waste programs or composting facilities
We provide a detailed gardening and usage guide to help residents make the most of it.
Are there consumables or infrastructure requirements?
FoodCycler programs are intentionally low-maintenance.
- The only consumable is a carbon filter, which helps keep the unit odourless. Filters typically last 3 to 4 months but can be used longer depending on usage.
- We offer bulk carbon options to keep costs low.
- Since filters only serve to eliminate odours, they are optional and some residents may choose to operate their unit without them.
There are no mandatory infrastructure requirements. However, we work with you to design optional supports that enhance the program, such as:
- Carbon refill stations
- Byproduct drop-off locations
- Local repair or maintenance programs
What happens at end of life?
Where possible, we prioritize repair and refurbishment to extend product lifespan. We can also help establish local repair programs, which not only support sustainability goals but can contribute to the local economy.
FoodCycler units are fully recyclable as electronic waste.
