Frequently asked questions

Which FoodCycler is right for my household?

Eco 3 is best for households with 1 to 3 people while Eco 5 is perfect for households with 4+ people. Want to compare all the specs? Click here.

How often do I need to replace the activated charcoal in my refillable filter?

On average, you’ll want to replace and refill the charcoal in your filter every three or four months depending on how much you use it and what you put in it.

If you’re noticing smells before the three-month mark, you’ll want to fill it with new charcoal.

How much electricity does the Eco 3 use?

Each cycle uses about 0.9 KWh per cycle which is roughly equivalent to running a desktop computer for the same period of time. Depending on where you live, that shouldn’t cost you more than a couple of cents per month.

How long does it take to run a cycle?

The time needed depends on the amount of food waste being processed, the density of the food wastes and the moisture levels contained in each. The typical Eco 3 cycle takes between 4-9 hours to recycle food waste into Foodilizer.

How easy is it to clean my Eco 3 bucket?

If  the blades are not restricted from moving by debris, you can simply keep adding your scraps and FoodCycle as usual.  If there is dried waste stuck to the side of the bucket, soak it in warm soapy water to remove it.

What can I do with my Foodilizer/ by-product?

We knew you would ask so we wrote a whole blog post about it! Read all about it here.
